The Charitable Donation Scheme

Did you know that we can increase the value of your donation by 44.9% if you donate €250 (€21 per month) or more to us in a year?

The Charitable Donation Scheme allows tax relief on qualifying donations made to approved bodies, like Outhouse. If an individual donates €250 or more in a year, we can claim a refund of tax paid by you on that donation. If a company donates €250 or more in a year, the company can claim a tax deduction as if the donation was a trading expense.

There is a four-year time limit for making a claim under this scheme. 

What is a qualifying donation?

Donations will qualify under the Charitable Donation Scheme if they are:

• worth €250 or more in a single year
• worth less than €1m made in a single year
• in the form of money, designated securities, or a combination of money and shares not repayable.
• any gifts you make by cheque, standing order, direct debit, credit or debit card are eligible.

As a donor, you may wish to make a donation to more than one approved body. If so, each donation to an approved body will qualify for the scheme.

Tax relief is restricted to 10% of your total annual income if there is a connection between you as the donor and the approved body you are donating to. 

Important to note: As a donor, you must not receive any benefit, either directly or indirectly, as a result of the donation, e.g. lunch in our café. A donation cannot be conditional on the approved body buying a property from a donor. This also applies to any person connected to you.
